We developed a comprehensive internal platform and management system for Viru Keskus to support the daily operations of a modern shopping center. Built on a single source of truth concept, the platform allows center management to oversee tenants, employees, and access cards, and to communicate directly with all stakeholders. For employees, everything is accessible in one place – from submitting sales data and completing trainings to accessing documents and staying informed about internal events.

Background & challenge

Viru Keskus had been relying on an outdated internal system that no longer met the needs of a modern retail center. Functionality was limited, the user experience was fragmented, and essential tools – such as access card management, document storage, and employee training – were spread across disconnected systems.

The challenge was clear: centralize all internal operations and communication into one seamless, reliable, and user-friendly platform accessible both on desktop and mobile.

The solution

PauseDigital designed and developed a custom internal platform and mobile application tailored specifically for Viru Keskus.

Key features include:

  • User- and role-based management: One user can be linked to multiple stores or companies
  • Access card handling & training workflows
  • Manual and automated sales reporting (integrated with Power BI for real-time insights)
  • Centralized document repository and direct communication with the center’s management
  • Maintenance requests and updates on internal events
  • Fully mobile-friendly via native app access

The solution is built with React on the frontend, Java Spring Boot on the backend, and PostgreSQL as the database. It integrates with 7 external systems and uses a custom API to connect with over 100 different POS systems, enabling automatic sales data submission from various store software.

The feedback from tenants and employees has been overwhelmingly positive. The new platform has significantly improved daily workflows and internal communication.
